Announcing The 2013 EnviroCom Awards

We are pleased to announce that nominations are being accepted forenvirocom trophy 2013 the EnviroCom Awards 2013.  Now in their seventh year, the Awards are renowned for showcasing the best melding of environmental and commercial practice by companies, agencies and not-for profit organisations located or operating within Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown.

Ten awards will be given in a range of categories including water and energy conservation, waste prevention, green transport, engaging communities in environmental projects, environmental performance and special environmental merit.  An Cathaoirleach and An Tánaiste have agreed to co-present the awards this year.

The Chamber  is delighted to welcome Mainstream Renewable Power as the overall Corporate Sponsor and Amgen as a new sponsor for the Engaging Communities category.  The Chamber also wants to acknowledge the continued support of the other sponsors over many years.

 In choosing to sponsor the Awards, Eimear Cahalin, Chief Accounting Officer at Mainstream Renewable stated “We are delighted to support the EnviroCom Awards which showcase the best environmental and commercial practice within Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown.  Given our role in the renewable energy sector, it makes sense to promote these awards in the context of corporate social responsibility; something we take very seriously.”

Past winners include some of the largest and most prestigious companies operating in the world, community groups, agencies and small firms operating in a local context.

WATER / WASTE

 ■ Best Example of Waste Prevention

■ Best Example of Water Conservation

This award will recognise organisations that have made significant steps to reduce waste
or conserve water in the management of their day-to-day operations or in redesigning
their processes. To qualify for this award it will be necessary to provide quantifiable
achievements in waste prevention and/or water consumption for at least one year.

■ Best Example of Energy Management

This award will recognise achievements in reducing energy use and carbon dioxide
emissions through coordinated energy management in the workplace. Entrants should
demonstrate what energy efficiency projects were championed and what energy savings

were made over a period of at least one year.

■ Best Example of a Green Transport Initiative

This award is open to both public and private organisations which can demonstrate
a comprehensive programme of actions, and commitment to the promotion of more
sustainable forms of travel, in terms of the movement of goods, employee commuting,
business travel and/or fleet vehicles.

ENGAGING COMMUNITIES IN ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECTS

■ Best Example of Engaging Communities in Environmental Projects

This award recognises businesses and organisations that enrich both the environmental
and social fabric of their local communities and beyond. Partnerships with local and /
or global communities must be represented in any environmental project submitted.
Entries for this award are likely to encourage resource reuse, recycling, neighbourhood
cleanups, composting and environmental education.

ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE

■ Best Example of Environmental Performance <50 Employees/Full-Time Equivalents

This award is open to any organisation/business operating in any sector , that can
demonstrate a comprehensive programme of actions to minimise the impact that their
business has on the environment. Entrants Should have an Environmental Policy and be
able to demonstrate how this is implemented in their workplace practices and how their
staff and customers are made aware of it.

■ Best Example of Environmental Performance >50 Employees/Full-Time Equivalents

This award is open to any organisation or business in any sector that can demonstrate
a ‘ground-up’ green strategy designed to minimise the impact of its business activity on
the environment. It can include any organisation that can demonstrate its commitment
to developing sustainable business practices e.g. implementing a green supply chain
strategy requiring its suppliers to have an environmental certification.

SPECIAL MERIT

■ Special Merit Award < 10 employees

Open to micro-enterprises who have developed or provided a new product or service
that has made a contribution to the enhancement of the local environment. The judges
are looking for a product or service available on the Irish market and providing an eco-
friendly solution as effective as its non-environmental equivalent.

■ Best Example of Environmental Innovation

The Environmental Innovation Award is at the judge’s discretion and is open to any entry
if any particular aspect or the overall achievement of the entry is deemed to deserve
special recognition. Novel and competitively priced goods or services designed with a
minimum use of resources to satisfy a need and provide a better quality of life for all will
be considered for this award.


JUDGING CRITERIA

Entries will be assessed on the following:

  • Clearly identified benefit to the environment.
  • Degree of originality and innovation.
  • Staff commitment to maintain and develop the environmental programme.
  • Social and economic benefit to its communities and the local area.
  • Possible adoption by others.
  • Participation in National or Global Environmental Programmes

Judging will take place in July / August 2013. The winners will be announced at the EnviroCom Awards 2013 Dinner on Wednesday 16th October 2013. The adjudicators’ decision will be final and no correspondence regarding results will be entered into.

The Envirocom Awards are FREE to enter

All you have to do is complete the Entry Form with:

■ Your contact details

■ A description of your entry (max 1,000 words) with supporting information highlighting success in implementing the programme(s) described in your entry.

■ Please supply an electronic copy of your nomination either by CD or email

 

You will also need to consider the following points when submitting your entry:

■ The EnviroCom 2013 Awards is only open to businesses, not-for-profits and public organisations located or operating within Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County.

■ You may enter more than one category. The judges reserve the right to re-allocate submissions to a different category if they think it is more appropriate.
