On 22nd March 2010, Nicola Byrne spoke at the kick-off luncheon for Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Enterprise Week. Speaking at the Royal Marine Hotel, Nicola described her early career and then commented on the financial and technical assistance provided by her local County Enterprise Board when founding her first business. She described the opportunity she saw in the telephone directory assistance market and how she purchased critical equipment at good value, obtained financial support and successfully competed with large multi-nationals by providinng better service and prices.
Enterprise Week is an initiative designed to highlight the role of enterprise in Dun Laoghaire Rathdown and feature a series of county-wide activities to support aspiring entrepreneurs and small business owners. Organisers of the week include the County Enterprise Board, Bank of Ireland Business Bank, Enterprise Ireland, County Council, the Chamber, FAS, IADT and NovaUCD.
Nicola Byrne is the founder and Managing Director of ‘Call 11890 Ltd’, the well known directory enquiry service firm. Nicola won the Women Mean Business Breakthrough Award and 11890 won best Marketing Campaign in Europe for directory enquiries from 118 Tracker.
Previously Nicola founded and ran Dublin based Stenics Media, which specialized in outdoor advertising. She has also worked with the research company AC Nielsen and was formerly a brand manager with Bank of Ireland and Jacobs DANONE. She is a graduate of the Marketing Institute of Ireland.
Call 11890 Ltd was launched in July 2006. and has rapidly grown to have over 24% ,market share picking up customers based on the fact that 11890 has no automated machines – providing each customer with a live trained professional.
