Award Description:

This award honours businesses in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown that are actively advancing environmental responsibility. It recognises organisations that are embedding sustainability into their core operations, adopting cleaner, greener methods, and leading by example in the transition to a low-carbon, environmentally conscious economy.

Judging Criteria

Entries will be evaluated on:

  • The presence of a defined environmental or sustainability strategy
  • Specific actions or programmes that have delivered measurable environmental outcomes (such as reduced energy use, emissions cuts, waste minimisation, or supply chain improvements)
  • Original approaches or technologies that show forward-thinking in sustainability
  • Commitment to transparency, accountability, or engaging employees, customers, or the community on environmental issues

Eligibility to enter:

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be based in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown
  • Have been operating and trading locally for at least 12 months
  • Be a registered Micro, SME, or large enterprise (including multinational corporations)
  • Have more than 50 employees.

Climate Action Success Award – Less Than 50 Employees

This award recognises businesses that have taken climate actions and influenced others to take steps to reduce their impact on climate change. To qualify actions must address some or all of the following themes: Energy and Buildings, Transport, Flood Resilience, Circular Economy and Resource Management, Nature Based Solutions and Community Engagement

Actions could include but are not limited to:

  • Taking an avoidance approach to minimise emissions.
  • Using renewable technology to reduce the carbon footprint of the business.
  • Undertaking adaptation actions to limit the effects of climate change.
  • Developing or introducing products to the market with a low climate impact.
  • Delivering and promoting innovative climate actions.
  • Rolling out campaigns/training to equip employees to take climate action.

The actions may be physical in nature, involve changes in business practices or be activities within the local community in which a desirable climate action outcome has been achieved.

Submissions will be assessed on the following criteria (a max. 20 marks each will be awarded)

  • The number and type of initiatives/projects/programmes undertaken
  • The reasoning behind selecting the initiatives/programmes/projects
  • Metrics used to assess the success of the initiatives/programmes/projects
  • Impacts of the initiatives/programmes/projects on the business and its stakeholders
  • Plan(s) the business has for taking positive climate actions in the next 12 months
