Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Chamber of Commerce and DLR County Council call on local residents and businesses to help shape a safer, more vibrant night-time economy.
Dún Laoghaire, 24 July 2025 – The Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, has officially launched a community-wide survey campaign to support the town’s application for the prestigious Purple Flag Accreditation.
The initiative, which promotes excellence in the management of town and city centres at night, recognises areas that are safe, vibrant, and well-managed between the hours of 5pm and 5am. The campaign invites both residents and businesses to share their views through two dedicated surveys, open until Thursday, 31 July 2025, at 5:00 PM.
Speaking at the launch, Colette O’Sullivan, CEO of DLR Chamber of Commerce, highlighted the importance of community input in this process:
“Securing the Purple Flag would be a major step forward for Dún Laoghaire. It’s not just about recognition—it’s about creating a town centre that feels safe, inclusive, and alive in the evenings. This survey gives our residents and businesses the chance to shape the kind of night-time economy they want to see.”
An Cathaoirleach Cllr Jim Gildea added:
“Dún Laoghaire already has so much to offer—our harbour, culture, food, and sense of community. The Purple Flag Accreditation would formalise what we know to be true: that Dún Laoghaire is a town with a bright future and a strong commitment to safety and quality of life for everyone.”
There are currently campaign posters with QR codes linking to the surveys will be visible across the town, supported by local stakeholders including An Garda Síochána, the Dún Laoghaire Business Association (DLBA), DLR Tidy Towns, the Dún Laoghaire Central Residents Association, and key hospitality leaders.
The feedback will play a critical role in demonstrating to assessors that the town meets the Purple Flag’s high standards for wellbeing, movement, appeal, and place. If successful, Dún Laoghaire would join an elite network of towns and cities across the UK and Ireland recognised for their commitment to delivering a positive evening experience.
